Welcome fellow WMU students!
Join us for an introduction to Android, Android Studio, and Jetpack Compose. In this workshop, you'll learn the basics of building Android apps with Jetpack Compose, the new UI toolkit for building Android apps in Kotlin. We'll start by getting familiar with Android Studio and setting up a new project, learning some Kotlin basics, exploring the structure of an Android application, and creating beautiful UIs with Jetpack Compose all while building a usable tip calculator!
Pre-reqs:
Before attending this session, you should install the Latest Android Studio. Once Android studio is set up, I recommend creating an emulator or being comfortable installing the application on your personal phone (requires developer mode to be enabled).
Sometimes setting up the emulator on a Windows machine can be annoying. It's a one-time thing when you first set it up but requires some steps. This link walks through the setup for Windows.
Note: Virtualization extensions are typically enabled through your computer BIOS and are frequently turned off by default. Check the documentation for your motherboard to find out how to enable virtualization extensions.
