Welcome fellow WMU students!

Have an event idea you'd like to see come to life? Interested in speaking on a topic of your interest? Submit your proposal!

GDSC WMU has a mission to empower our community with the resources, education, and experience they need to create imaginative technological solutions to the problems facing society. With our core values to build a thriving community, bridge the gap between theory and practice, and encourage sustainable progress, we've hosted several workshops, networking events, and social events in the past semester.

For this ideathon, we encourage you to submit an event proposal that befits our goals and values.

Possible event ideas include:

Speaker session with industry leaders

Workshop on common industry technologies

Technology-related friendly competition

Collaborative event with another group


FAQs:

  • GDSC WMU will provide you with all the support necessary to host your event, which includes but are not limited to:
    • Creating an event team to support your event
    • Promotion and marketing
    • Funding and reimbursements
    • Speaker outreach
  • Eligibility requirements: To be eligible to submit a proposal, these are the following requirements:
    • You must have a team of 1 or more people
    • All members of the team must be registered members of the chapter
    • You must be able to provide a pitch deck (google slides/powerpoint presentation)
  • Next stages: After verifying your proposal eligibility, you and your team may have to do the following:
    • Pitch your event idea (~5 mins) on an allocated date and answer questions from the audience *Note that AT LEAST ONE member from the team must be present on the mentioned date
    • Record your team's pitch (~5 mins) for the voting session
  • Submissions will close Sunday, Jan 29th 11:59 PM EST
  • If your team wins the ideathon, these are the following items to prepare for:
    • The tentative date for your event is Friday, Feb 24th
    • The GDSC WMU Core Team will invite your team to join our MS Teams for further planning and discussions
