About this event

Welcome fellow WMU students!

Pedal Forward Kalamazoo is a local Solution Challenge in the form of a day-long hackathon that will take place on November 18th, 2023. Building on our commitment to drive social impact, this year we are partnering with ModeShift, a leading advocacy organization focused on improving alternative modes of transportation in Kalamazoo, Michigan. This event presents a unique opportunity for participants to tackle real-world challenges in sustainable transportation, enrich their portfolios, and contribute meaningfully to ModeShift's ongoing initiatives.

In this Solution Challenge, you may choose one of the following challenges to solve:

Data Visualization: Create a visualization tool that uses local tax information to display how different sectors contribute to Kalamazoo's city revenue using publicly available data.

Route Planner: Improve ModeShift’s existing route planner, incorporating provided information about road safety.

This will be the first of many opportunities for you to solve real-world challenges!  You will also be able to attend different workshops and tech talks throughout the day.

P.S: Lunch will be provided!

The Solution Challenge is open to everyone from any major.
