Submission Categories
For the Holiday Coding Competition, participants are eligible to use various frameworks and languages to complete their project. Please view the submission criteria and point system for each framework.
Option 1: Unity (Codeless or with Code)
Description:
Either with or without code, the goal is to create a simple game. It can be a maze runner, a platformer, a shooter (nothing overtly violent please), a puzzle game, whatever springs to mind. The name of the game is keeping it weird. There will be several criteria for the game, but most points are attributed to the funniest and bizarre experience.
Criteria:
Funny/Bizzare Element (50 points (A) / 10 Points (B))
Basically, just make this game weird. The game can be mind-bending, it can be funny, it can be psychedelic, it can be cursed, as long as it’s out there; that’s what we want the most
In the holiday spirit, add a December holiday theme (Christmas/Hanukkah/Kwanzaa/etc...) for 10 bonus points
PLEASE KEEP IT PG. NOTHING SEXUAL/VISCERAL IN NATURE
Multiplayer element (5 points x number of players. Max players = 4)
5 points are earned for every extra player that can play along up to 4 players
Making online games takes a while, double points if it supports online play
A E S T H E T I C (20 Points)
Pretty self-explanatory
Option 2: PyGame (or other game making framework)
Note: It doesn’t necessarily have to be made with pygame, any library for game making with any programming language will do. It just can’t be with an editor/engine like Unity or Unreal
Funny/Bizzare Element (50 points (A) / 10 Points (B))

Multiplayer element (5 points x number of players. Max players = 3)

Making online games takes a while, double points if it supports online play
Puzzling/Moral Dilemma/Thinking (30 points)
Since it’s harder to make games look good with code under time constraints, the more puzzling the better (within reason, this isn’t the Imitation Game). You could also pose a series of moral dilemmas (pre-existing ones or moral-dilemma simulators will not count)
Examples:
Tiny Brains ( https://store.steampowered.com/app/253690/Tiny_Brains/ )
COD of Duty ( https://rjevans.net/post/41629208761/cod-of-duty-the-premier-first-person-shooting )
The Binding of Isaac (including rebirth/afterbirth)
Untitled Goose Game ( https://store.steampowered.com/app/837470/Untitled_Goose_Game/ )
Team Formation and Prizes
We recommend teams of no more than 4 people in order to have Gift Card amounts be distributed evenly. Teams will choose how they would like the amount to be distributed amongst members. Separate gift cards to each team member will be given.
Teams will be judged based on criteria above and given points in each category. The top three teams with the most points will be rewarded.
First place prize: $200 in gift cards of choice to winning team
Second place prize: $150 in gift cards of choice to winning team
Third place prize: $100 in gift cards of choice to winning team
Peoples Choice: $100 in gift cards of choice to winning team
