Derek started out his career in the medical field by studying Human Anatomy at the University of Port Harcourt. While doing so, the need to build a solution that solved a core student issue while in school forced him to begin his software engineering path even while being a medical student as an extra-curricular activity. That product went on to be sold just before his graduation to a Nigerian company.
Graduating from school as a human anatomist with an interest in reproductive biology and having 3+ years of experience as a software engineer with freelance clients, Derek harnessed the potentials to multi-task while creating his own path. It wasn't long before he decided to venture into product management as it gave him the required advantage to not just oversee the proper development and maintenance of products but enabled him to solve problems with simple yet innovative solutions.
