With talks focused on supercharging your career, and ethical AI, as well as workshops on designing with Figma and Gemini, you can gain a wealth of knowledge from seasoned professionals! International Women's Day (IWD)

About this event

International Women’s Day (IWD) is marked on March 8th every year. In different regions, the focus of celebrations ranges from general respect and appreciation toward women to a celebration of women’s economic, political, and social achievements.
As part of Google’s Women Techmakers (WTM) program, events are hosted throughout March and April, even though International Women’s Day (IWD) occurs on March 8th every year. The goal of IWD celebration for Google is to galvanize women with a background or interest in computer science around International Women’s Day and raise visibility of women in tech.  Along with just the timing of IWD falling around midterms and spring break travel, we wanted to choose an easier time to celebrate and provide visibility for the incredible contributions of STEM women around the world.

This year’s 2024 theme is “Impact the Future.” We all have the power and the responsibility to impact the future of technology and society, with AI as a major part of shaping our world. What will that future look like? And how will we build it? We can use our skills, creativity and passion to create positive change and solve the problems that matter to us and our communities. We can also inspire the next generation of women in tech who will continue to impact the future with their own ideas and innovations.

Workshop: Medha Muppala with “Design Your Own App Using Figma"	Want to start your career as a UI designer or transition from your current career? Join me as I show you how you can design your own apps and websites using Figma. In this workshop, I'll walk you through the steps for designing an app that you can add to your portfolio or customize and make it your own! What you'll learn: - Fundamentals of Figma - How to use the tool - How to design your very own app All you need for this workshop is: - A laptop and charger - A free Figma account - Lots of enthusiasm to learn P.S. You don't need to be an artist to start designing! (Because of the limited time, we'll only be designing a few screens and not the entire app)

Keynote: Alaina Mupparthi	Alaina Mupparthi presents her Honors research on postpartum healthcare for women in the United States for International Women's Day.
Keynote: Naz Zarreen with “Build with Gemini: How to integrate Gemini models to build intelligent software"	In this talk, we will explore how Gemini, the most capable AI model of Google, can be used to streamline software development. We will start with an overview of Gemini’s capabilities and how it can be used to generate code from natural language descriptions. We will also go through a hands-on demonstration of integrating Gemini's API into your own software development projects. By the end of this talk, you will have a solid understanding of how you can leverage the power of Gemini to implement your exciting ideas!
Keynote: Dipika Jain with "Beyond Code : building Ethical AI products"	The presentation is designed to introduce beginner-level students to the fundamentals of building ethical AI products. As AI technology continues to advance and integrate into various aspects of life, understanding the ethical implications becomes crucial.
