The case competition enables you to network with various industry companies 🏭, collaborate with mentors 🤝, and work in teams 🙌 to solve burning problems 🔥 within your chosen sector.
The case competition, conducted over a two day period, will equip you with design and future thinking workshops, presentations, industry networking events, and meetups with CIAIRI. You could join as a team, or we could place you in teams, in which you will pick an industry and propose a creative solution through live presentation. 🚀

Tim Devine is an Executive Innovation Director at AKQA. Tim is involved in many innovative projects AKQA creates around the globe.
Action audio is a world-first system for augmenting live sports with sound, designed to give people who have visually impaired the ability to follow games in real-time. Action Audio is a new way for people who are blind or have low vision to follow the sports they love. AKQA developed it in collaboration with Tennis Australia and Monash University. Action Audio turns spatial data from live sports into sound, allowing blind and low-vision audiences to follow the action in real-time.

John Thangarajah is a Professor in AI and the Director of Research of CIAIRI (Center for Industrial AI Research & Innovation) at RMIT University, Melbourne, Australia. He leads the research directions and also the academic partnerships.
One of his strong beliefs is in applied research, and over the last five years he has been part of $4 million in research funding from the government and industrial sectors, with primary collaborations with the Defence Science Technology group.
John has over 20+ years experience in teaching and managing CS & IT related courses to undergraduate, postgraduate and industry personnel. During his time as the head of Computer Science and Software Engineering discipline, he transformed the first year education for Computer Science and Software Engineering students at RMIT moving away from the standard lecture model to hands-on experiential learning in bootcamps and studios.
His goal is to continue to be involved in developing smart systems that are not only intellectually challenging but also have practical benefit and impact.
Azadeh's research interests lies in the general area of AI, specifically focuses on computer vision for medical image analysis and security.
Brian is currently working as the AI Practice Lead in Servian. Brian's core responsibilities include providing clients with enterprise data solution advisory, managing end-to-end data science and MLOps deliveries, and leading the development of AI/ML capabilities within Servian.
Kathryn leads the data science practice for Eliiza which is part of Mantel Group house of brands. She has a background in statistics and data science and has worked in pharmacy, financial service, and insurance before moving to the consulting side for the past decade. She has a keen interest in building data science solutions that add value and scale and is especially interesting in the ethical considerations of the machine learning and AI solutions that are created.
Minyi's research interests lies in the general area of AI, specifically focuses on preference representation, reasoning, and learning, computational social choice, collective decision-making, and multi-agent systems.
Phil has been privileged to have had a front row in the amazing growth of the software industry in Australia, which provides an insight and a wealth of practical expertise into building world class development teams, and building leading edge software products that customers enjoy using.
This is because of his love of learning and technology – what it has done for us, and what the future promises.
He has spent much of his career working with small to medium technology start-up companies to help them implement their vision. This has involved developing their tech stack, building effective infrastructure and collaborating teams.
Phil has also had a long relationship with Redcat - a POS and business management solutions provider, first helping them move to the online world more than 20 years ago, and more recently help them re-engineer their product suite to deal with the demands of modern world. He is currently the General Manager of all the development and infrastructure teams within Redcat.

Patrick is the organiser of the Melbourne TensorFlow User Group and a core member of the TensorFlow Lite and TensorFlow.JS working groups at Google. He is passionate about Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning and enjoys building technical communities or educating developers on new technologies. He is currently a Principal Software Engineer at Flybuys, focusing on mobile application development. He is a senior Software engineer with diverse experience across mobile, cloud, and artificial intelligence technologies. He has extensive experience leading development teams and communicating with key stakeholders. He is passionate about building technical communities and educating developers on new technologies.
Wei is a final year PhD candidate in the Intelligent Automation Research Group at RMIT University. Wei's PhD research focuses on machine learning (deep learning) and computer vision (stereo depth sensing) for autonomous robotic applications. In addition, he also has experience in the following topics/frameworks:
* (ML) representation learning, domain adaptation and generalization, Bayesian deep learning,
information theory, generative modelling and adversarial learning;
* (CV) stereo matching, semantic/panoptic segmentation, optical flow, image classification, object
classification and detection and image synthesis;
* PyTorch, TensorFlow, Python, Jupiter, Git.
Wei has also worked as a tutor and lab demonstrator for the COSC2673 Machine Learning course at RMIT University. Formerly worked in the teaching team for Digital Fundamental and Introduction to Mechatronics.
Wei will join innovision to present computer vision and intelligent automation in robotic applications. He will discuss identifying a problem and finding methodologies to address issues through STEM.
Lei is currently working as a data scientist on personalisation and recommendation system at Pepperstone. Her day to day work involves ML modelling, data exploration, wrangling, analysis and visualization, as well as the engineering side of building data pipeline, building API, CICD for productionising models. She enjoy challenging work and problem solving.
