Damian Fasciani

Damian has fifteen years of technical leadership experience working across several industries (Advertising, Property, Digital to name some), and is also an advisory board member for an aussie tech startup. Damian has led teams globally and partnered with Google, Microsoft, Slack, Salesforce, Box & Amazon delivering cutting edge solutions that have digitally transformed organisations, including the delivery of consumer based products in the property industry. Damian is an inclusive and passionate leader who has enjoyed building and leading technology teams, coaching and developing people so they can thrive and get the most out of their careers. With broad business experience Damian has co-led international business acquisitions across Italy, Luxembourg, South East Asia & New York and is currently writing a book about building good culture & productive teams. Outside of work Damian enjoys spending time with his family, is a sports enthusiast, keeps fit, & runs two pop culture sites out of the US.

Throughout her career in Human Resources, Laura has worked for startups, fortune 100 companies, and everything in between. Her passion is building world-class people and recruitment programs, focused on diversity and inclusion, for growing tech businesses. The PaperCut talent team came runner up in excellence in diversity & inclusion at the Internal Talent Awards 2020. Laura was also recognised as runner up Talent Leader of the Year.

David is a Software Engineer at Google working on exemplary applications to help you be productive on Chrome OS. Technically he has worked across the stack in various projects including backend (Flask, SpringBoot, Node), frontend (React, jquery, Polymer, lit-html), mobile (Android, React Native) and ML (gensim, TensorFlow). He likes long walks on the beach, making drier then last time anabolic muffins and enjoys getting lost in other countries.

Denis Bauer

Judge

Dr Denis Bauer is a government research scientist, adjunct professor at Macquarie University and an AWS Hero. She is passionate about translating research into impactful products. Her science has led to the discovery of novel disease genes for Motor Neuron Disease and has informed the COVID-19 vaccine development. Her open-source bioinformatics software products have commercial impact through advanced cloud-architecture and deployment. She keynotes international IT, LifeScience and Medical conferences and has attracted more than $35M in funding to further life-science research and digital health. Denis holds a Bachelor in Bioinformatics from Germany, a PhD in Bioinformatics from the University of Queensland and a Certificate in Executive Management and Development from the University of New South Wales Business School.

Jeffrey Chan

Judge

Jeffrey is a senior lecturer at RMIT University. His research interests lie in machine learning, recommendation, FAccT (Fairness, Accountability, Transparency), social network analysis, data driven optimisation and decision-making and interdisciplinary research that combines these fields to solve novel applications. He is keen to support and be involved in student initiatives and a member of the Diversity committee of the Automated Decision Making + Society Centre of Excellence. He has worked with industry and the non-profit sector in marketing, sustainability, social media, energy, manufacturing and digital health.
