2D Game Development with Unity

About this event

Unity is one of the most popular game engines in the industry. It has been used to create many popular games, including Hollow Knight, Cuphead, Fall Guys and more!

Attend this workshop to get a good introduction to the world of 2D game development. You will work with sprite sheets, game objects, physics, and C# scripts.


- Download Unity Hub (Green button on the right) from the Unity website or click the direct download link here 

From Unity Hub download the latest recommended release (currently Unity 2020.3.25f1 (LTS)). From the Add modules page, install Microsoft Visual Studio Community 2019.

What are we going to cover:

- Basic 2D game development concepts (sprites, sprite sheets, 2D physics)

- Unity menu walkthrough

- Creating game objects and assigning both physics properties and a sprite to them

- Designing custom C# scripts to make a player character move left and right

- Creating idle and walking animations

- Adding basic platforms using tiles and tile-mapping

- Making player character jump
