About this event

"Communities of practice are groups of people who share a concern or a passion for something they do and learn how to do it better as they interact regularly."

Drawing on a fast-emerging literature of community management, we want to develop a new lynchpin in the London tech scene:  an impact-focussed, research-intensive, tech-literate community open to all parts of civil society and its needs. This being the LSHTM, we are especially focussed on public health interventions, which is somewhat appropriate to the global pandemic in which we find ourselves. As trying and tragic as the pandemic is, we should all feel grateful and privileged to be a part of one of the best public health universities in the world at the time when such research is needed the most.

In particular, the session will go over:

  • Our web-development track: how, when and why we will be learning web development across the year;
  • A Machine Learning Community of Practice: how we mean to fulfil the demand for ML learning, how it can be applied and what our objectives are (spoiler: job-ready certification).
  • The nature of the London Tech scene and our place in it.
  • Community-building measures including socials.

See you there!
