About this event

Open source software is software with source code that anyone can inspect, modify, and enhance. It allows us to contribute to the source code in order to enhance the software and add features we all like. We use opensource everywhere in our day to day life - Android, Facebook, VLC,...name it all!

Contributing to open source can be a rewarding way to learn, teach, and build experience in just about any skill you can imagine. Improve your own skills and the software you rely upon, meet people interested in what you like, find mentors and teach others too!

Open Source is About More Than Code. There are all sorts of ways to get involved! It takes many skills to build open source software and historically the spotlight has focused on coding. However, you can contribute to open source in many ways beyond writing code in the product.

Don't worry we will take you through it all.

Hacktoberfest, in its 8th year, is a month-long celebration of open source software run by Digital Ocean. During the month of October, they invite you to join open-source software enthusiasts, beginners, and the developer community by contributing to open-source projects on GitHub and GitLab. Learn more about git and opensource, contribute and get rewarded.
