Cybersecurity, vulnerabilities and best practices with Harbor Labs

About this event

Are you interested in Cybersecurity? Are you willing to participate in cybersecurity competitions and engage in a future cybersecurity career? We are pleased to invite Xiaoyu Shi, director of research and analysis from Harbor Labs, a healthcare IT consultancy, to give a walk-through of the current problems, vulnerabilities, and best practices in cybersecurity. This lecture is introductory, aiming at CSE students in general: it provides advices for non-specialists in cybersecurity on how to optimize your code for reducing vulnerability, and for people that are interested, it is a good sneak peek into some of the research areas in cybersecurity. We will then have a discussion session where you can ask questions and have a nice chat together with Xiaoyu and GDSC. This lecture contains the following contents: 

• Security is a design and configuration problem

• Vulnerabilities in compiled languages

• Vulnerabilities in web applications

• Use of cryptography

• Some secure coding best practices
