About this event

We are happy to announce the first in-person event of the Google Developers Student Club at De Anza College

The event will be hosted on Wednesday, Dec 1 from 1:00 pm - 2:30 pm

Location: AT 205 (first-floor room near the computer lab)

This event is being held on campus in the Advanced Technology Center (ATC). This means that if you are a De Anza student who is taking virtual CIS classes but has not set foot on our campus for over 18 months (if ever!), this is your opportunity to change all that.

Speaker:

Our speaker Michael Gainer has been a Senior Software Engineer with Google for almost 11 years and has done over 250 technical interviews there. He has been a back end software engineer, primarily working on Unix/Linux, for 32 years. He does not currently own a cat 🐈

Agenda:

The talk will start with some warm-up Q&A and proceed into a detailed discussion of how to do well in a technical software interview, as follows:

  • Q&A about working as a software engineer, career advice, life at Google, and any other technical topics.
  • A deep dive into an apparently simple question about data structures and algorithms. This will cover strategy and tactics on both sides: why your interviewer asks what they ask in that particular way, and how you can help them help you.
  • A brief tutorial on the stages to best address a coding question
  • Follow-up Q&A on any topic at all.

[Important] DO THIS BEFORE COMING TO THE EVENT IN PERSON

If you are NOT a student currently enrolled in a fall term On Campus Section, you must first obtain a Digital Vaccine Card and upload it with De Anza My Portal.

The instruction on how to do so is in this document.

As noted there, at first glance it seems like an involved procedure (3 pages!), but it is fairly straightforward, quick, and once completed, the campus is open to you for seminars, lectures, and classes.

In any case, we hope you can make it, as it promises to be an exciting, informative event, and a chance to share a physical classroom with a community of your De Anza student peers also interested in preparing themselves for high tech careers.

Try and register as early as possible – we are limited to 40 attendees.

And don't forget your mask :)
