BIPs are proposed improvements to Bitcoin's consensus layer( main chain), community standards, and the development process. Since 2011, any improvement to Bitcoin has been passed through a system called Bitcoin Improvement Proposals or “BIPs.” Bitcoin improvement proposals or BIPs suggest guidelines for how Bitcoin can and should evolve technically as an innovation.
