Workshop Agenda:

Introduction (10 mins)

  • Explain what version control is and why it's useful
  • Briefly introduce Git and its basic concepts - repository, commit, branch, merge etc.
Installing Git (10 mins)
  • Git installation guide
Initializing a Repository (10 mins)
  • Demonstrate how to initialize a new Git repo locally

Basic Workflow (15 mins)

  • Explain the basic Git workflow - add, commit, push, pull
  • Show commands to check status, view history, create branches
  • Make commits on a test repo and push to GitHub

Making Changes (15 mins)

  • Discuss branching and merging
  • Create feature branches, make changes, and merge
  • Explain Git's merging and history capabilities

Collaborating (20 mins)

  • Explain remote repositories and pushing/pulling changes
  • Demo contributing to projects and resolving merge conflicts
  • Share repos and practice collaboration

Advanced Tools (20 mins)

  • Introduce advanced concepts like rebase, reset, stash
  • Demo a Git GUI client like GitHub Desktop
  • Show where to learn more - Git docs, YouTube channels etc.

Wrap-up (20 mins)

  • Recap major points and learnings
